It’s true.
Eclipses have historically - as far back as written and oral records go - been associated with changes, mostly negative ones.
It’s simple to understand the symbology - the sun is our life source. For it to be blocked out for a few moments of daylight is naturally terrifying.
The word eclipse comes from ekleipsis, the ancient Greek word for being abandoned.
In our modern day, not only are we deeply disconnected from all the rhythms of nature, we demonize the sun. At best, we take it for granted, jaded as we are by the “knowns” of scientific knowledge. At worst, we hide from the sun, slather our skin in toxic chemicals to “protect” ourselves from this giver of life force. Never mind that skin cancer only emerged in the last few decades, when humans have been living out of the sun and inside more than any other time in history… that’s for another day.
To go outside and mindlessly ogle at the solar eclipse, an astronomical event revered as sacred in every single ancient society, does not make sense to me. It speaks of our society’s disconnection and mindlessness, the lack of true knowledge and connection to the nature that we are not just a part of - that we ARE.
The ancients understood this.
