As I sat in the airport, I could feel my anxiety and frustration rising.

It was 11:30pm on a Sunday evening, and we were waiting for our flight home from Denver, with our two sweet, exhausted, cranky 6 year olds.

We were about to board a red eye that shouldn’t be named as such, since it’s a less than 4 hour flight. It’s essentially just no sleep, for no good reason, and staring down a full-on week of motherhood (spring break = no homeschool pod, no help) on a couple hours sleep was terrifying me.

“This was SUCH a bad idea,” I fumed internally. “I knew it would be, I should have insisted we flew home earlier in the day.”

I should have, would have, could have… I could feel the pull of a downward spiral. My body ached in fatigue after three lovely, but long days, visiting friends out here.

“Kelly, time to use your toolbox,” the inner voice of my higher self said.

“Test out the goods.”

I walked myself through cosmic mindset shifts to change my energy, to tap into more patience, presence, and gratitude amidst the messy exhaustion of real life.

Here’s how it went, in five steps.

(Spoiler alert: it works, but you may be surprised by which part was most impactful for me on this late evening.)
